Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Sr. Electro-Mechanical Engineering Specialist is responsible for the review and management of technical requirements and provide design and support on technical activities, engineering analysis for electro-mechanical contactor design and development. Responsible for project management, design reviews, technical proposals and releasing documents. Performs prototype construction, breadboard evaluation, qualification testing and evaluates results.  Performs cost/performance trades and makes recommendations for design improvements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide legacy product support to customer and operation
  • Design magnetic coil for contactors
  • Select contact material for contactors
  • Design high power contactor and prepare mechanical 3D models and drawings
  • Prepare assembly drawings and work with manufacturing engineers to create manufacturing job instructions
  • Design and/or improve electromagnetic components in legacy contactors
  • Prepare Technical Specifications for the mechanical design, fabrication, procurement, etc.
  • Research materials for reliable performance in various environments and application
  • Perform design analyses through calculations and simulation, using applied physics
  • Design for manufacturability and design to cost
  • Review and checking mechanical drawings, calculations, sketches, etc. for the project
  • Support proposal activities for new business development

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or University in Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience with Mechanical Design in Aerospace products
  • Design experience in coil magnetic design, solenoid, actuators, motors, etc.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional 3-D solid modeling design experience using Autodesk Inventor
  • Familiar with electro-mechanical designs
  • Familiar with system requirement review process
  • Magnetic simulation using ANSYS or similar
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and have the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Must have knowledge and experience with aerospace environmental requirements
  • An analytical disposition and math acumen
  • Work as a “team player”
  • Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions up to 5% of the time
  • Understand and live by Leach International Corporation ethics and business conduct policies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics Degree
  • MS or PhD in material science
  • Magnetic blow out design for high voltage contactor
  • Good understanding of geometric tolerance and knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 dimensioning standards

Salary Range: $120K – $175K (based on experience)
